Overview - Netherlands - FIVB Volleyball Nations League 2018

Team profile

In the past three years, the Netherlands have continued to build on the success of winning bronze at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix in Bangkok, a year capped with a silver at the 2015 European Championship. A memorable 2015 was followed by an impressive fourth place finish at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and another silver at the 2017 European Championship. Rio 2016 was the Netherlands best Olympic performance. In their other two appearances, the Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Games, they finished sixth and fifth respectively.
The team’s best finish in 13 appearance at the FIVB World Championship was seventh place in 1998.
The Netherlands have been in and out of the FIVB World Grand Prix since their first appearance in the second edition of the competition in 1994. In 2007, they registered their biggest success in the competition, finishing the Intercontinental Round in fifth place, with a 9-6 record, but storming through the Final Six in Ningbo undefeated to claim gold.
The Netherlands have also enjoyed success in the European Championships, winning gold in 1995, silver in 1991, 2009, 2015 and 2017, and taking bronze in 1985.
