Russia seek third straight VNL win in match with Argentina

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 12, 2018 - Reigning European champions Russia go for their third consecutive win in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League when they meet Argentina, Friday in Ludwigsburg. The two sides have met 16 times in history, with Russia leading the series 13-3.

Head-to-Head
• Argentina and Russia (including the Soviet Union and CIS) have met 16 times before at world level major competitions, with Russia having won 13 of those matches and Argentina three.
• World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• Two of Argentina's three victories though came in the last three meetings between these teams, as Argentina beat Russia 3-0 at the 2016 World League and 3-1 at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
• The most recent world level match between these teams was Russia's straight sets victory at last year's World League.

Russia
• Russia can win three successive VNL matches for the first time, after their victories over China (9 June) and Iran (10 June) last weekend.
• Each weekend so far at the 2018 VNL, Russia lost one match and won two.
• Four of their six wins at the VNL so far, Russia claimed in straight sets. They beat Australia and Iran 3-1.
• Dmitriy Muserskiy scored a match-high 24 points against Iran last Sunday, at least nine points more than any other Russian player.

Argentina
• Argentina won their most recent match, a 3-0 victory over Korea on 10 June.
• They can now win successive VNL matches for the first time.
• Argentina's sole other victory at the VNL was their straight sets victory over Italy on 3 June.
• At world level major competitions, the last time Argentina won successive matches was when they won their last two matches of the 2017 World League against Brazil (3-1) and Bulgaria (3-1).
• In their victory over Korea last Sunday, Cristian Poglajen (13), Agustin Loser (12), Sebastian Sole (11) and Tomas Lopez (11) all scored 10+ points.
