France go for win against China to keep up with leaders

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 2, 2018 - France meet China Sunday in Lodz to wrap up Week 3 of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, seeking a win that would keep them within reach of trhe table leaders. France have won ten of their last eleven encounters with China and lead the overall series 11-4.

Head-to-Head
• Of the 15 world level major competition encounters between these teams, France won 11, China four.
• World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• France won 10 of the last 11 world level major competition encounters with China, with a 3-1 in the 2010 World League as the only exception.
• The last world level major competition encounter between these teams was at the 2010 World Championship, when France won 3-0.

France
• France beat Germany 3-0 on 2 June, their fourth win at the VNL.
• France have lost only one of their last 17 major world level fixtures against Asian opposition, a 3-2 defeat against Iran at the 2017 Grand Champions Cup.
• Stephen Boyer is France's leading scorer in the VNL on 57 points.
• France's top scorer against Germany was Thibault Rossard with 10 points.

China
• China have lost their last three matches at the VNL: 3-0 v United States, 3-1 v Germany and 3-0 v Poland.
• China could lose four consecutive major world level matches for the first time since a run of five at the 2015 and 2016 World League combined.
• The last time China lost four successive fixtures at a single major world level tournament was at the 2014 World Championships (5 in a row), held in Poland.
• Jiang Chuan scored 18 points in China's last match at the VNL, against Poland. No other player scored more than five points for China in that match.
• In total, Jiang Chuan has scored 98 points at the VNL, at least 60 points more than any of his teammates (38 by Rao Shuhan).
