Dutch out to improve VNL winning streak to four against Korea

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 29, 2018 - The Netherlands host Korea Wednesday in Apeldoorn, seeking to extend their three-match winning streak in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. But last time the Koreans beat the Dutch was 16 years ago, at the 2002 FIVB World Championship in Germany.

Head-to-Head
• The Netherlands are on a three-match winning streak against Korea at major world level events.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• The Dutch most recently beat the Koreans in a world major 3-1 in the quarterfinals at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
• Korea's three successive defeats came after they had won five world major matches in a row versus The Netherlands from 1996 to 2002. Their last victory was a 3-0 win at the 2002 World Championships.
• This will be the first time at world level, that The Netherlands face Korea on Dutch soil.

Netherlands
• The Netherlands beat Poland 3-0 in front of a home crowd in Apeldoorn on Tuesday to improve to six wins and one defeat in the 2018 VNL.
• The Netherlands's only defeat was a straight set encounter against United States on 23 May. They booked four of their six VNL wins in straight sets.
• The Netherlands have now won five of their seven world level major competition matches on home soil. The wins all came in straight sets, the defeats all in five sets, against Puerto Rico in Doetinchem in the 2014 World Grand Prix and against Japan in Apeldoorn in the 2017 World Grand Prix.
• Lonneke Sloetjes was the top scorer in the match against Poland, scoring 16 points. Yvon Belien (14) and Marit Balkestein-Grothues (11) also reached double figures in the straight-set win.

Korea
• After losing 3-1 to Brazil on Tuesday, Korea have four wins and three defeats thus far in the 2018 VNL.
• Korea could lose three successive matches in a world level major competition for the first time since losing all five in the 2017 Grand Champions Cup (all in straight sets).
• Tuesday's match against Brazil was Korea's first ever world level major competition encounter in The Netherlands. In all other nations they played at least one match in, they have also lost all their matches in India (3 defeats).
• Jeongah Park was Korea's top scorer in the match against Brazil with 19 points.
