Brazil – Serbia (June 13, 2019)
Head-to-head
• Serbia (incl. Serbia and Montenegro and Yugoslavia) won only three of their 16 world level major tournament matches against Brazil, but those three victories did come in their last six meetings with the Brazilians.
• Serbia won their most recent world level match versus Brazil, a straight sets victory in the first round of the 2018 World Championship. Serbia went on to win the world title.
• Serbia could win successive world level matches against Brazil for the second time, after back-to-back victories at the 2016 and 2017 World Grand Prix.
• World level major tournaments are: FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
Brazil
• Brazil have won their last four Volleyball Nations League matches. Once before Brazil recorded a longer winning run in the competition: nine consecutive victories from 16 May to 5 June 2018.
• Brazil have won at least one set in each of their 11 matches at the 2019 VNL.
• Gabriela Braga Guimaraes (12) and Ana Beatriz Correa (10) scored the most points for Brazil in their most recent VNL match (3-0 win against Thailand).
• Five of Ana Beatriz Correa's 10 points against Thailand came from stuff blocks. She has won 35 points from blocks in total this VNL campaign, at least 18 more than any of her teammates.
• Both Ana Paula Borgo Bedani Guedes (161) and Gabriela Braga Guimaraes (177) have reached 150+ points for Brazil in the 2019 VNL. In 2018, Brazil had only one player scoring at least 150 points in the preliminary round (Tandara Caixeta, 231).
Serbia
• Serbia have lost their last three Volleyball Nations League matches, their longest losing run in the competition.
• The last time Serbia lost four successive major world level matches was from October 2014 to July 2015 (5 in a row at 2014 World Championship and 2015 World Grand Prix).
• Serbia could lose four consecutive matches within a single major world level tournament for the first time since the London 2012 Olympic Games, where they lost all five of their matches.
• Serbia (W5-L6) could lose seven matches at a single major world level tournament for the first time (incl. as Serbia and Montenegro & Yugoslavia). They also recorded six defeats at the 2011 World Cup and at the 2012 and 2015 World Grand Prix.
• Maja Aleksic scored 11 points in the defeat against Japan, of which four points from blocks. Aleksic is one of the best blockers in the competition, with a total of 36 points from stuff blocks (0.92 on average per set).
Japan – Thailand (June 13, 2019)
Head-to-Head
• Japan lead the head-to-head with Thailand 14-2 in world level major competitions (FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
• Japan have won each of their last nine matches against Thailand in world level major competitions, since a 3-2 defeat at the 2012 World Grand Prix.
• In total, Thailand won only two of their 16 world level major tournament matches against Japan, both in five-setters. Thailand also beat Japan 3-2 at the 2009 World Grand Prix.
• In last year's VNL, Thailand took a 2-0 lead in sets against Japan, but the Japanese side went on to win the final three sets. The fifth set finished 22-20.
Japan
• Japan won six of their 11 matches at the 2019 Volleyball Nations League. In 2018, Japan finished the tournament on seven wins and eight defeats.
• Japan have yet to play their first five-setter at the 2019 VNL. In 2018, only Turkey (7) played more five-setters in the VNL than Japan (5) (Italy also 5).
• Yuki Ishii is Japan's top scorer at the 2019 VNL on 152 points. In 2018, Ai Kurogo (158) and Ishii (157) finished as Japan's top scorers in the competition.
• Sarina Koga won 40 points for Japan in their last two VNL matches, most among her teammates.
• Mako Kobata is one of the best diggers this campaign, with an average of 3.59 per set.
Thailand
• Thailand have won one match in each of the four weeks of playing in this year's Volleyball Nations League.
• Thailand's four wins at the 2019 VNL are already twice as many as in 2018 (2). The last time Thailand won more matches in a world level competition was at the 2012 World Grand Prix (team record 9 wins).
• Malika Kanthong (13) was the only player to win more than six points for Thailand in their most recent VNL match (3-0 defeat against Brazil).
• Chatchu-On Moksri (120) is Thailand's leading points scorer this VNL campaign, closely followed by Ajcharaporn Kongyot (115).
• Nootsara Tomkom is one of the best setters at the 2019 VNL with an average of 6.70 per set.
