Poland's Smarzek back to top-scoring ways with 31 against Japan

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 18, 2019 - Malwina Smarzek is back with her 30+ scoring, as she led Poland to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22) win over Japan in Boryeong at the start of Week 5 in the 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League contributing 31 of her team's total 94 points.

The Polish opposite, who turned 23 this month, got 27 points from attacks (27/65 for 42%), plus another two each from blocks and serves in the match against Japan.

It is the fifth time this season that Smarzek makes the list of players to have scored 30 points or more in a single VNL match. She had previously bagged 41 points (an all-time VNL high) against Bulgaria, 33 against Russia, 32 against Germany and 31 against Brazil.

Her last 30+ had been back in Week 3 earlier this month, in Poland's 3-2 win over Russia.

Smarzek also has three entries in the list from last season's inaugural VNL, bringing her total to eight and making her the most prolific scorer ever of the competition.
