Lang Ping gives young players opportunity to play in match with Kenya

Sapporo, Japan, September 24, 2019 – Xiangyu Gong and her younger teammates helped China past Kenya 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) and remain unbeaten (8-0) at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup on Tuesday.

China coach Lang Ping: "Today was a good opportunity for our young players to play today. It is important for them to collect experience. We have to concentrate on the Netherlands next. They are one of the top teams in Europe. I hope our younger players learned a lot and also from our opponents. In major competitions, it is difficult to get opportunities for them to learn the atmosphere. It took until around the third set today for them to find their rhythm. I take every match as important."

China player Zhang Changning: "We are happy to win. There are various things we need to reinforce. However, we will continue to make efforts to do this."

China player Yang Hanyu: "I think we worked well today. I will work harder and we will continue to work hard in Osaka. Today was my first start and I am grateful to the coach for the chance. My blocking was not always strong, some were good and some were bad."

Kenya coach Paul Bitok
: "We have been watching China to see why they are so successful. We knew we were playing the defending champions. There is a big difference in level between us and China. We were not expecting to win today. We worked hard and wanted to get past 10 points in each set. We had some success on attacks and learned a lot."

Kenya captain Mercy Moim: "We played our best but they were stronger than us. I think China will get stronger and playing them will help us get stronger."
