Kurek likes the way the team reacted and put pressure on Italy

Fukuoka, Japan, October 6, 2019 – Wilfredo Leon and Aleksander Sliwka scored 15 points each as Poland downed Italy 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) to to improve their record to 4-1 at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup on Sunday.

Poland coach Vital Heynen: "We played a very good match today. We made few mistakes. We had good concentration. I’m surprised we can do this after a long season. Congratulations to my players."

Poland captain Bartosz Kurek: "This is a difficult morning because we played an early match, as yesterday. We learned our lesson that if you don't stay sharp and charged in the beginning of the game, then you might lose a set. Yesterday we lost one set, but we did not today. I'm proud of our guys. I like how we reacted and put pressure on Italy. Italy played a good match and I'm sure they will do better later in the tournament. We did a good job and it was good collective work. We hope to continue this in Hiroshima."

Italy coach Gianlorenzo Blengini: "They played better. In the first and second sets we did not have the same continuity in difficult moments. We lost opportunities to make points we defended against their attack. We had trouble with the float service. We got better after that, but did not take advantage when we could have."

Italy player Gabriele Nelli: "It is too bad that we lost, especially because we had opportunities. It is regrettable. We had chances to disrupt them but it was not enough. We need to analyse our mistakes and correct them."
