Iwasaka: We were able to refresh our minds

Sapporo, Japan, September 23, 2019 – Sarina Koga scored 13 points as Japan defeated Kenya 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) at the FIVB Women’s World Cup on Monday.

Japan coach Kumi Nakada: "We lost yesterday and in terms of winning the match tonight we executed, but the substance was not good. Osanai should do serving and receiving as well as attacking. I want her to play like Shinnabe."

Japan captain Nana Iwasaka: "We were able to refresh our minds after last night’s loss and win and that was good. There were many shortcomings though and many things we have to do for tomorrow’s match. The support from the fans helped us. We hope to win tomorrow."

Japan player Sarina Koga: "It was good we could score at the beginning in attack, but in the second half of the match we had mistakes that need to be corrected."

Japan player Miwako Osanai: "It is good that we won. My attacking was OK but my defense was a bit sloppy and I want to correct that. We have momentum for tomorrow now and I want to take that into the next round."

Kenya coach Paul Bitok: "The atmosphere was good tonight and the fans supported both teams. That was nice for us. We played better and are continuing to improve. We played like we did against the United States and Brazil tonight. Many teams here are playing fast and we are doing the same. We have been able to create more chances in attack. Our reception has also improved."

Kenya captain Mercy Moim: "We played a good game compared to the other matches. We are going forward and playing better and better every day. We will keep doing our best."
