Osaka, Japan, September 27, 2019 – Twenty-three-year-old Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez has already made significant strides for the Dominican Republic in her young career, establishing herself as the team’s go-to hitter.

Brayelin has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable players in the wing spiker position. She is her team’s consistent top scorer, which puts her third in the best scorer category with a total of 150 points in nine matches.
Despite their five losses in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup, Brayelin appears to be unfazed by these results and instead looks ahead for improvement of their game that will ultimately help her turn into a versatile athlete.
“We are really doing a good job as a team because the teams here are difficult to beat. I think we have improved our level in each game that we played. We just have to keep our rhythm and keep playing,” Brayelin said.
“As for myself, I’m just working hard to achieve my dream and transform into a complete player. I work very hard to improve my game.”
She also turns to her teammates for inspiration by learning to handle each situation with teamwork.
“Everyone in my team inspires me,” she said. “We play like a team and we make it a point that we help each other out.”
Her athleticism though runs in the blood, as her parents and siblings are also working in sports. Her mother was a team manager of the age-group national teams. Her sister Jineiry and brother are also professional athletes.
“My brother plays basketball and my 21-year-old sister Jineiry plays with me in the national team. We are all into sports. It’s my life and I feel good because I have learned a lot from it. It makes me happy to be in this field,” she shared.
With two matches remaining on the schedule for the Dominican Republic, Brayelin will certainly continue with her scoring exploits and move forward on her journey to becoming the complete player that she aspires to be.
