Coming back from two sets down gave us confidence: Argentina captain

Toyama, Japan, September 24, 2019 – Argentina beat Cameroon 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-12) in the second match on the eighth day of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup at Toyama City Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Argentina coach Hernan Ferraro: "Today, I am happy with the win. We lost the first two sets but we could turn it around from the third set. The Cameroon attack was very strong and we had problems in defence, so I’m happy we could win through."

Argentina captain Julieta Constanza Lazcano: "Today was very difficult. Cameroon’s defence is very strong, but the fact that we could turn it around after losing two sets is good as it gave the team confidence. As the match went on, we were able to block and defend better."

Cameroon assistant coach Anomah Neba: "Today’s game was one of the best the team has played since the start of the World Cup. Although we lost, there were positive aspects that we saw in our team, especially our digs and reception improved. It’s good that we are progressing in this this eighth game despite some fatigue. It’s good to find this quality. At the end of the game we lost because Argentina has good fighting spirit and they had good spikes. This pushes us to go back and learn from this and to try and improve ourselves. As a team, we are playing better since we came to Japan. One of the purposes of being here is to grow as a team day by day. Our, serve, reception, block and spiking are all getting better. Today, we couldn’t gain success, but if we have a chance in the future, we want to play at a higher level so we can get a better result."

Cameroon captain Nana Christelle Tchoudjang: "Today, we thought we’d have a chance of getting our first win in Japan. We lost but we can take some positives from the game. Despite losing, we learned to trust ourselves and believe that we could do better, so in the third round we will try to do better."
