Argentina coach says World Cup is important development platform for young players

Hiroshima, Japan, October 15, 2019 – Ezequiel Palacios scored 15 points as Argentina downed Australia 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 26-24) at the FIVB Men’s World Cup on Tuesday.

Argentina coach Marcelo Mendez: "The players are very happy and so am I. It was an excellent tournament. This is an important phase of development for our young players. This was a good opportunity for them to grow and important for the future of volleyball in Argentina."

Argentina captain Martin Ramos: "I’m very happy to win the last match. It was a good tournament for us looking back. To win the final match 3-0 is good. This is a good way to end and for us to progress in the future."

Argentina player Matias Sanchez: "It was a very good tournament. Our fifth place is very good for us. We will go to the club season and think about the Olympics at the start of next season."

Australia coach Mark Lebedew: "We had a plan coming in. There was not a lot riding on this game with everything already decided. We wanted to finish with a good performance. We played well in long periods today but made mistakes and gave them chances. We were not disciplined enough in critical moments."

Australia player Lincoln Williams: "We did not follow our plan at the start and gave Argentina good shots. In the second half of the match we did better, but did not take opportunities when we had them."
