Argentina coach Mendez says good service and reception key to win against Canada

Hiroshima, Japan, October 10, 2019 – Bruno Lima scored 14 points as Argentina downed Canada 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-20) at the FIVB Men’s World Cup on Thursday.

Argentina coach Marcelo Mendez: "We are happy to win. We were able to have good service and reception without many mistakes in all three sets."

Argentina captain Martin Ramos: "We are very happy to win. In all three sets we could play volleyball at a high level. Our service was not bad today. We lost to Brazil yesterday because their service was better."

Argentina player Matias Sanchez: "Happy for the win. We played well. We prepared the same as we always do. Sometimes we don’t play our best game, but we did today."

Canada coach Daniel Lewis: "This was a difficult match as is evident of the outcome. I did not properly prepare the team. We could not pressure them on block defense. Argentina is a better offensive team. We must learn from our opponents on how to get better. The players fought and didn’t give up. We are in learning situations with our team."

Canada captain Nicholas Hoag: "This was a tough game in every part. We were unable to put pressure on them as they executed in all aspects. We had difficulty with their block defense. I did not play well today. I fell away from my role as a captain. I will try to get back to it tomorrow. I’m still learning. I will work on that."
