Harelik scores 30 in Leningradka rollercoaster win

 

Belarusian international Anastasiya Harelik reached the 30-point mark as her Leningradka Saint Petersburg achieved their 11th win of the season in the Russian Superliga.

The 1.85m-tall opposite spiked 25 points at a 47% success rate, two aces and three stuff blocks towards the 3-2 (25-19, 17-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-8) home victory over Tulitsa Tula on Monday. Harelik’s season total of 317 points so far puts her in third place on the scorers chart, 22 points short of current leader Irina Sazonova of Lipetsk.

Another member of the Belarusian national team, Katsiaryna Sakolchyk, added 15 points to Leningradka’s tally in the match, while Anastasiya Azanova was Tulitsa’s top scorer with 21 points to her name, including five blocks.

Four more 19th leg matches were played on Saturday and three of them were also resolved in five sets. Most notably, Dinamo-Ak Bars Kazan persevered through a two-hour battle with Dinamo Krasnodar to claim a 3-2 (25-27, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 15-5) away win and overtake their opponents for the second place in the standings. Croatian international Samanta Fabris was the best scorer of the match with 23 points for the winners, while her teammate, Mexican national team star Samantha Bricio, added 19, including four aces.

Despite a 30-point contribution by another Mexican international, Andrea Rangel, for the home team, Superliga rookies Sparta Nizhny Novgorod managed a 3-2 (28-30, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15, 15-8) away victory at Dinamo-Metar Chelyabinsk. 17-year-old hopeful Svetlana Gatina, member of Russia’s junior national team, scored the match high of 25 points on the winners’ side.

Zarechie Odintsovo claimed a five-set home win over Lipetsk, Lokomotiv Kaliningrad travelled to Proton Saratov to master a straight-set victory, while the remaining two games of the leg were postponed.

Three Dinamos are in the lead with 14 wins each. The team from Moscow top the standings on 41 points in 15 matches. The squad from Kazan are in second on 40 points, also in 15 matches. Their rivals from Krasnodar are next on 40 points in 18 matches. Leningradka (on 11-5 win-loss record) and Lokomotiv (10-3) complete the top five.
