Does Hancock hold the aces for USA at Tokyo 2020?

Micha Hancock has established herself as an important member of the USA team

Lausanne, Switzerland, January 16, 2020 – Micha Hancock showed the threat she will provide for the USA at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and FIVB Volleyball Nations League by setting a new Italian Serie A record for most aces scored in a match in Round 14 of the regular season on January 15.

The 27-year-old scored 10 points with her service during Igor Gorgonzola Novara’s 3-1 victory over Bosca S.Bernardo Cuneo to improve on the record of nine aces that was previously held by fellow American Hayley Spelman and Italy’s Valentina Zago.

Novara’s number 12 enjoyed a meteoric rise in the 2010’s. She was part of the USA team that won silver at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and then helped Penn State University win back to back National College Athletic Association championships.

The Oklahoma native made her USA debut in 2016 and was part of the USA team that won 2018 Volleyball Nations League gold. She also appeared at the Japan 2018 FIVB Volleyball World Championships where Karch Kiraly’s team reached the quarterfinals.

USA’s women have yet to win Olympic gold, with silver at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 their best results. However, throw a server as consistent as Hancock into the mix and maybe their dream of topping the podium may be realised at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo later this year.
