Maret Balkestein-Grothues

In June 2008 Maret Balkestein-Grothues made her debut in the national team in
the match against Cuba at the Montreux Volley Masters. So far (01-05-2018),
Balkestein-Grothues has played 308 international matches for her country. With
the Dutch national team the wing spiker conquered silver at the 2009 European
Championship in Poland, silver at the 2015 European Championship in The
Netherlands and
silver at the 2017 European Championship in Azerbaijan.
In 2016 Balkestein-Grothues and her team won bronze in the World Grand Prix and
ended on a historical fourth place in the Rio Olympics. At the 2010 World
Championship in Japan, Balkestein-Grothues was awarded with the ‘best
server’
trophy. In the 2018-2019 season the current captain of the Dutch team played
for the Romanian club CSM Bucuresti. Balkestein-Grothues started playing
volleyball at Krekkers (Mariaparochie).
