Itambe Minas Tenis Clube, a multi-sport club based in Belo Horizonte with highly successful men's and women's volleyball departments, mark their third appearance this year in the 2019 FIVB Club World Championship, following silver medals in their two previous attempts.
Minas returned to the Club World Championship last year after an absence of 26 years. Competing as L'Acqua di Fiori Minas they made the final of the second edition of the Club World Championship in 1992, losing to Italy's Il Messaggero [Teodora] in four sets at Jesi. Last year they fell to Turkey's VakifBank Istanbul in straight sets.
Minas are the reigning Brazil champions after beating Praia Clube twice in matches of the best-of-three final series of the Superleague. It was their second national title after that of 2002.
They are also the reigning South American champions after finishing the round-robin 2019 edition undefeated with a 3-0 sweep of Praia Clube in the deciding match. It was Minas' second straight continental title, adding to that of 1992.
