Reigning European champions Igor Gorgonzola Novara are making their debut in the 2019 FIVB Women's Club World Championship after grabbing the continental Champions League title with a 3-1 win over fellow-Italians Imoco Volley Conegliano - also a contender in this year's Club World Championship.
Founded as AGIL Volley in 1984 and currently in Italy's top flight A1 League, Novara have won just one national title, in 2017, but have claimed three national Cups in 2014, 2018 and 2019. They were runners-up this year in the Italian championship, succumbing in the best-of-five final series to Novara after only three matches.
Internationally, they won the third-tier European CEV Cup (now renamed as Challenge Cup) in 2003, though their next title wasn't until this year.
Before heading to China for the Club World Championship the two Italian rivals are set to meet in Milan on 16 November for the 2019-20 Italian Supercup.
