Lucia Fresco of Argentina: “This is a great deal for us”

Lima, Peru, June 30, 2019 – Lucia Fresco said it was a great deal for Argentina to beat a European team after claiming a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14) victory over Croatia and finishing third at the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup.

Lucia Fresco, leading scorer Argentina: "We were better focused, our goal today was clear and after a great beginning, the team gained more confidence. We came from less to better, finishing with a crushing victory. Beating a European team in straight sets is a great deal for us."

Hernan Ferraro, head coach Argentina: "Today we played very well. Our offence was more aggressive, something we spoke about yesterday, about making better decisions. The Challeng System helped us to take those decisions, for example attacking against the hands or just a finger maybe. You need to play to observe your errors and that is something we have been working on, studying our game and not that of our opponents; this is the key to improve individually as players and as a team as well."

Sanja Gamma, veteran player Croatia: "I do not want to make excuses, but four of our starters are not feeling well, it was not our best performance. This is a completely new team, I am the oldest player and I am happy to help the younger players here, two of our players are juniors and that is why there are so many ups and downs. We are trying to do our best, we will keep on working for the European Championship in August."
