Egonu extends deal at Imoco Volley Conegliano

Paola Egonu celebrates winning the FIVB Club World Championship

Conegliano, Italy, May 21, 2020 – Imoco Volley Conegliano fans were given a boost with the news that Paola Egonu has signed a contract extension with the club that guarantees she will wear yellow and blue for the 2020-21 season.

The Italy opposite enjoyed a stellar first season with the team from Italy’s north-east. She helped Daniele Santarelli’s team to glory at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia.

“My first season was great, albeit incomplete,” Egonu said. “We had to stop after winning three trophies and weren’t able to challenge for more over the last phase of the season in Italy and Europe.

“We couldn’t do anything else by the stop, but this has left a hunger and desire in the team to maintain our momentum and carry on our work next season.

“We have plenty of objectives and plenty of battles to face, if we want to continue to win.”

Egonu will also have to wait another 12 months to see if Davide Mazzanti’s Italy team can build on the silver medal they won at the Japan 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, where she finished as leading scorer with 324 points.

Since joining Imoco the 21-year-old has struck up a strong partnership on and off the court with Miriam Sylla, who is also a teammate for Italy.

It meant she had no problem settling into her new surroundings when she joined Imoco in July 2019.

“My introduction to the team was easy and smooth, as I thought it would be,” Egonu said. “From outside you can see that the team spirit is special.

“It is a team that works and enjoys itself to the maximum, always trying to improve, which is what I do, even though I think I can do more.

“Now I want to continue my development and contribute to the progress of our team.”
