The 22-year-old opposite beat her own all-time record, striking 41 times in Poland's 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-17) win over Bulgaria on the opening day of Week 2 at the VNL. The previous VNL record was 39 points from last year's competition in Poland's five-set defeat to Thailand.

Against Bulgaria today Smarzek registered 36 kills from 68 swings (for a 53% efficiency) plus four stuffs and one ace.
