Smarzek on fire with back-to-back 30+

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 29, 2019 - For the second day running Poland's Malwina Smarzek made an entry in the list of players to have scored 30 points or more in a single FIVB Volleyball Nations League match as she led Poland to yet another victory, this time over Brazil 3-2 in Apeldoorn.

Smarzek had 27 kills from 53 swings (for a 51% efficiency) and added three aces and one block.

The 22-year-old opposite had scored an all-time VNL high of 41 points a day earlier in just four sets against Bulgaria.

Today's was Smarzek's third entry this year in the 'Over 30s Club' of the VNL. She had bagged 32 points in Poland's win over Germany 3-1 in the opening week of the competition. She is so far in the VNL the only player to have made the list.

In last year's inaugural VNL, Smarzek had emerged overall top scorer with a total of 361 points in 15 matches (or an average of 24 points per game). So far this season Smarzek is already at 149 points after five matches (for an average just shy of 30 points per game).

And the city of Apeldoorn seems to lend itself for high scoring. Last year Brazil's Tandara Caixeta scored 34 points against Korea and 31 points against the Netherlands in this Dutch city. It was also here yesterday that Smarzek got her all-time VNL high of 41.
