Get to know: Turkey captain Eda Erdem

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 16, 2019 – Eda Erdem has been wearing the national jersey of Turkey since 2005 but her performance in last year's FIVB Volleyball Nations League was perhaps her biggest.

A chronic back injury prevented her from playing at the 2014 FIVB Women's World Championship, but her return to the national team drew positive results as she led Turkey to a silver medal finish at the inaugural edition of the VNL.

She had a breakthrough performance in scoring and was the second highest scorer for her team in the preliminary round and then the top scorer in the final round. She also scored the most aces in a match with seven against Russia in their five-set encounter. She was voted on to the Women’s VNL Dream Team as the best middle blocker.

Captain Erdem will be back to lead the Turkish campaign for the 2019 VNL, but before that, listen to her talk about the first sport she played, her biggest influence, her pre-game rituals and the impact of the VNL.
