2019 Women's VNL - May 28 - Pool 6 - Head-to-head stats

 

Ankara, Turkey, May 27, 2019 - Russia and Germany play before pool hosts Turkey, who remain undefeated, take on Japan in 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League Pool 6 on Tuesday. Get the head-to-head statistics below.

Russia - Germany (May 28, 2019)
Head-to-head

·    Russia have won each of their last eight encounters with Germany in world level major competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
·    Germany's last major victory over Russia took place in the 2004 World Grand Prix, in which Germany vanquished Russia 3-2 in front of a home crowd in Rostock.
·    Germany managed to take six sets off Russia in their last eight world level meetings combined, all Russia victories.

Russia
·    In Week 1, Russia defeated China (3-1), but lost against Dominican Republic (3-1) and Brazil (3-0).
·    Russia have started off with one victory and two defeats. Last season, they opened their Volleyball Nations League campaign with two victories and one defeat.
·    Margarita Kurilo amassed a team-high 50 points in Russia's first three matches, with 41 of those coming off attacks.

Germany
·    Germany are one of three teams to start their 2019 Volleyball Nations League campaign with three defeats, alongside Bulgaria and Republic of Korea.
·    Germany managed to take one set off Poland in the opening week, but lost in straight sets to Thailand and Italy.

·    Germany have lost each of their last four matches in major competitions at world level.

Turkey - Japan (May 28, 2019)
Head-to-Head
·    After losing their first four, Turkey have won five of their last seven matches against Japan in world level major competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
·    Turkey could beat Japan three times in a row in world level major competition matches for the first time.
·    Turkey beat Japan 3-1 in the preliminary round of the 2018 Volleyball Nations League. This also was the last encounter between these sides.

Turkey
·    Last year's finalists Turkey have started the 2019 Volleyball Nations League with victories over Republic of Korea (3-0), Netherlands (3-1) and Serbia (3-0).
·    Turkey have never lost a VNL match by a 3-0 scoreline. In all of their 22 encounters they claimed at least one set, and in 21 of 22 they claimed at least two sets.
·    Turkey also started their 2018 VNL campaign with three victories before losing their fourth match 3-1 against Brazil.
·    Turkey could win four VNL matches in a row, which would be their longest winning streak ever. They have won three in a row for the fourth time in the competition.
·    Ebrar Karakurt has a 2019 VNL leading attack success rate of 52.94%. Karakurt's seven aces are most by any player in the competition alongside Netherlands'sJuliet Lohuis.
·    Kubra Caliskan averages the most kill blocks in the competition thus far: 1.10 per set.

Japan
·    Japan beat Bulgaria and lost to United States and Belgium in the 2019 Volleyball Nations League thus far. All matches ended 3-1.
·    Japan could lose three VNL matches in a row for the first time. They have lost back-to-back for the second time, after successive defeats against Serbia and Brazil in the first two matches of the 2018 VNL.
·    Japan have won at least one set in each of their last 10 VNL matches, after failing to collect one in four of their first eight matches in the competition.
·    At the 2018 VNL, Japan also won one of their first three matches. They went on to lose the fourth in straight sets against United States.
·    Only Poland's Malwina Smarzek (78) has scored more total points in the 2019 VNL than Yuki Ishii (64).
