2019 Women's VNL - May 23 - Pool 4 - Head-to-head stats

 

Belgrade, Serbia, May 23, 2019 - The Netherlands take on Korea and 2018 runners-up Turkey play pool hosts Serbia in 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League Pool 4 on Thursday. Get the head-to-head statistics below.

Netherlands - Korea (May 23, 2019)
Head-to-Head

·    Netherlands have won each of the last four meetings between these teams in major international competitions, following a string of five victories by Korea.
·    They also met in the inaugural Volleyball Nations League last year. Netherlands emerged victorious in straight sets in front of a home crowd in Apeldoorn.
·    In that match, Lonneke Slöetjes led the way on 17 points in a clinical performance by the Dutch. No Korea player topped seven points in that match.
·    Korea's last major victory over Netherlands dates back to the 2002 World Championship at which the Koreans triumphed in straight sets.
·    Of their previous 15 meetings in major international competitions, Korea won eight and Netherlands emerged victorious in seven.

Netherlands
·    Netherlands have lost their first two matches in the 2019 Volleyball Nations League – 3-0 against Serbia and 3-1 against Turkey.
·    Netherlands have now lost five straight matches at world level competitions for the first time since the 1999 World Grand Prix. Their last longer losing streak was seven matches combined in the 1996 and 1997 World Grand Prix.
·    Netherlands have lost their last four matches at the Volleyball Nations League. They had only lost three of their previous 15 matches in the competition.
·    Nicole Oude Luttikhuis scored 15 points against Turkey, most among Dutch players. Juliet Lohuis (13) also reached double figures in scoring.

Korea
·    Korea have lost seven VNL matches in a row, currently the longest losing streak of all participating nations.
·    Korea kicked off their 2019 Volleyball Nations League campaign with defeats against Turkey (3-0) and Serbia (3-1).
·    Korea have now lost 11 of their last 12 VNL matches. Their sole win in that run was a 3-1 preliminary round victory over Thailand on 5 June 2018.
·    Against Serbia, Korea broke a run of six VNL matches without winning a set. They won the first set 25-15 in that match.

·    Heejin Kim scored a team-high 10 points in Korea's opener against Turkey. Sohwi Kang claimed top scoring honours for her team in the match against Serbia (16 points).



Serbia - Turkey (May 23, 2019)
Head-to-Head
·    Turkey's 3-2 win in the final round of the Volleyball Nations League in 2018 ended a run of five defeats against Serbia at world level major competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
·    Turkey had lost 3-2 in Serbia in the preliminary round of the Volleyball Nations League.
·    Tijana Boškovic scored 28 (preliminary) and 31 points (final round) respectively in these two matches against Turkey. Merem Boz (21) and Hande Baladin (20) were Turkey's top scorers respectively.
·    Including European Championships, Serbia had won seven matches in a row against Turkey from 2014 to 2018, until their loss in the final round of the Volleyball Nations League.

Serbia
·    Serbia secured a 3-1 victory over Korea on Wednesday. A day earlier they beat Netherlands 3-0.
·    In last year's Volleyball Nations League, Serbia also won their first two matches before suffering a 3-1 loss to Brazil in the third encounter.
·    Serbia have played four five-set matches in VNL history, of which they won only one – against Turkey on 31 May 2018.
·    Only United States (13) have more straight-set VNL wins than Serbia (8).
·    In the absence of superstars Tijana Boškovic and Brankica Mihajlovic, Ana Bjelica got the top scoring honours in the match against Korea with 19 points.



Turkey
·    Last year's finalists Turkey have started the 2019 Volleyball Nations League with victories over Korea (3-0) and Netherlands (3-1).
·    Turkey have now won 15 Volleyball Nations League matches, losing six. Five of their six defeats in the competition came in five sets.
·    Turkey started their 2018 VNL campaign with three victories - 3-0 against Italy, 3-2 against United States and 3-0 against Poland.
·    Turkey could win three VNL matches in a row, which would equal their longest winning streak in the competition, set on three previous occasions.
·    Ebrar Karakurt (36) and Hande Baladin (36) are Turkey's most prolific scorers in the 2019 VNL thus far.
