2019 Women's VNL - May 22 - Pool 4 - Head-to-head stats

 

Belgrade, Serbia, May 22, 2019 - 2018 runners-up Turkey are up against the Netherlands and reigning world champions and pool hosts Serbia play Korea in 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League Pool 4 on Wednesday. Get the head-to-head stats below.

Turkey - Netherlands (May 22, 2019)

Head-to-Head

·    Netherlands have won two of their three matches against Turkey in world level major competitions (FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup), including a five-set win in last year's Volleyball Nations League (25-11, 31-29, 16-25, 20-25, 15-10).
·    These teams also met at the 2016 World Grand Prix in Kaliningrad, where Netherlands claimed a straight-sets victory over Turkey in the group stage.
·    Turkey's sole win over Netherlands at world level dates back to 4 October 2014, when they came from behind to claim a 3-1 win in the 2014 World Championship second round.

Turkey
·    Last year's finalists Turkey started the 2019 Volleyball Nations League with a 3-0 victory over Korea.
·    Turkey have now won 14 Volleyball Nations League matches, losing six. Five of their six defeats in the competition came in five sets.
·    Turkey have played seven five setters at the Volleyball Nations League, more than any other team (Italy 6).
·    Turkey started their 2018 VNL campaign with back-to-back victories - 3-0 against Italy and 3-2 against United States.

·    Three Turkish players reached double figures in their opener against Korea - Ebrar Karakurt (19), Hande Baladin (15) and Kubra Caliskan (10).



Netherlands
·    Netherlands kicked off the 2019 Volleyball Nations League with a 3-0 defeat against Serbia.
·    Netherlands have now lost their last four matches at world level competitions. Their last run of five defeats came in their first five matches at the 1999 World Grand Prix.
·    Netherlands lost their opening match at a world level competition for only the second time in their last 11 appearances. At the 2016 World Grand Prix, Netherlands suffered a 3-1 defeat in their opener against Russia.
·    Netherlands won their first four matches at the 2018 VNL. Their first defeat came against eventual champions United States.
·    Eline Timmerman was the only player to score at least one point from spikes (3), blocks (2) and serves (1) for Netherlands in their opener against Serbia.


Serbia - Korea (May 22, 2019)

Head-to-Head

·    Serbia have won 10 of the 12 matches against Korea at world level major competitions (FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
·    Eight of these 10 victories were by a 3-0 scoreline, including last year's win in the Volleyball Nations League: 25-17, 25-20, 25-11. Serbia scored nine points from blocks in that match and eight points from serves.
·    Korea's two wins versus Serbia came at the 2014 World Grand Prix (3-1) and the 2012 Olympic Games (3-1).

Serbia
·    After losing their last two matches of the 2018 Volleyball Nations League, Serbia started this year's campaign with a 3-0 victory over Netherlands.
·    Serbia started their 2018 Volleyball Nations League with two straight-set victories - against Japan and Germany.
·    Only United States (13) have recorded more straight-set victories than Serbia (8) at the Volleyball Nations League.
·    Tijana Boškovic scored 25 of Serbia's 75 points in their opener against Netherlands.

Korea
·    Korea kicked off their 2019 Volleyball Nations League campaign with a 3-0 defeat against Turkey.
·    Korea have now lost 10 of their last 11 VNL matches, including each of their last six in straight sets. Their sole win in that run was a 3-1 preliminary round victory over Thailand on 5 June 2018.
·    Korea won four of their opening five matches at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League. The only exception in that run was a straight-set defeat against Belgium in their opening fixture.
·    Heejin Kim scored a team-high 10 points in Korea's opener against Turkey, all from spikes.
