2019 Women's VNL - May 22 - Pool 1 - Head-to-head stats

 

Opole, Poland, May 22, 2019 - Thailand take on Italy and Poland play Germany in 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League Pool 1 when action resumes on Wednesday. Get the head-to-head statistics below.

Thailand - Italy (May 22, 2019)

Head-to-Head

·    Italy have won 12 of their 14 matches against Thailand at world level major competitions (FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
·    Eight of these 12 victories by Italy were completed in straight sets, including last year's win in the Volleyball Nations League and at the 2018 World Championship. Italy conceded more than 15 points in only one of the six sets in these two wins - 17 points in the second set of their 3-0 win in the Volleyball Nations League (25-11, 25-17, 25-15).
·    Italy scored 13 points from blocks in the 3-0 victory against Thailand in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League.
·    Thailand's two wins versus Italy at world level came at the World Grand Prix in 2016 (3-2) and 2017 (3-0).

Thailand
·    Thailand beat Germany 3-0 in their 2019 Volleyball Nations League opening match on Tuesday.
·    Their straight-set win against Germany ended Thailand's nine-match losing streak at the Volleyball Nations League. Their previous win was a five-set victory over Poland on 24 May 2018. Thailand can now claim back-to-back VNL wins for the first time.
·    Two of Thailand's three wins at the Volleyball Nations League came against CEV nations – 3-2 against Poland in 2018 and 3-0 against Germany this week. Their other victory came against Argentina (3-0).
·    Pleumjit Tingkaow (13 points), Chatchu-On Moksri (12) and Malika Kanthong (10) all reached double figures for Thailand in their opener against Germany.

Italy
·    Italy started their 2019 Volleyball Nations League campaign with a five-set victory over Poland on Tuesday.
·    Only Turkey (7) have played more five setters at the Volleyball Nations League than Italy (6).
·    Italy won 11 of their last 12 Volleyball Nations League fixtures and are unbeaten in their last nine matches in the competition, since a five-set defeat against Japan on 29 May 2018.
·    Indre Sorokaite scored 27 points in Italy's opener against Poland, at least nine more than any other teammate.

·    Elena Pietrini (18), Lucia Bosetti (14) and Sarah Luisa Fahr (13) also reached the 10-points mark versus Poland.



Poland - Germany (May 22, 2019)

Head-to-Head

·    Poland have won eight and lost two matches against Germany at world level major competitions (FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
·    Poland won the most recent encounter 3-1 at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League. Malwina Smarzek scored 28 points in that match.
·    Germany's last win versus Poland at a world level tournament was their 3-0 victory at the 2013 World Grand Prix.
·    Including the 2017 European Championship (3-2) and 2015 European Games (3-2), Poland have won each of their last three competitive matches against Germany.

Poland
·    Poland started their 2019 Volleyball Nations League campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Italy.
·    Including their last match at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League (3-1 loss versus Dominican Republic), Poland have now lost back-to-back fixtures in the competition for the second time after a four-match losing streak in May 2018.
·    Only Turkey (7) and Italy (6) have played more five setters at the Volleyball Nations League than Poland (5, W3-L2).
·    Malwina Smarzek scored a match-high 28 points in Poland's opening match. Italy's Indre Sorokaite scored 27.
·    Smarzek's tally of 28 points was at least 10 more than any other teammate. Natalia Medrzyk scored 18 points.



Germany
·    Germany kicked off the 2019 Volleyball Nations League with a 3-0 defeat against Thailand on Tuesday.
·    Germany's last four defeats at world level all came in straight sets, three at the 2018 World Championship and one at the 2019 VNL.
·    Last year, Germany started their Volleyball Nations League campaign with a 3-1 win over Brazil before losing each of their next six fixtures in the competition.
·    Louisa Lippmann, Germany's top scorer in last year's VNL, and Hanna Orthmann both scored a team-high 11 points in their 3-0 loss versus Thailand.
