Lausanne, Switzerland, February 14, 2020 – What a 2019/2020 season it has been for United States player Annie Drews, as she continues to reach new heights for her national and club teams.
It is no surprise that Drews is considered one of the best players in the world right now, because of her consistency, her undeniable firepower and influence when it comes to bringing home victories for her team.
At the second edition of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in 2019, Drews led USA with a 33-point performance from a two-set deficit to win 3-2 against Brazil in the final and celebrate a second consecutive VNL trophy victory. She topped that with the Most Valuable Player award of the Finals in Nanjing, China.
Drews saw action at the Tokyo Volleyball Qualification Tournament, and made every moment on the court count to help her team reach their goal of qualification for this year’s quadrennial. She took on a more active role at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup in Japan by guiding her team to a silver medal finish, claiming a Best Opposite award in the process.
During that period, JT Marvelous announced that she would join their team for the 2019/2020 season. Drews’ addition to the team instantly delivered wonders as she led the way to the V.League title after a nine-year title drought. The left-handed opposite amassed 36 points in the final and concluded her club season with another MVP award.
Drews’ efforts were rewarded when she was selected as her country’s Female Indoor Player of the Year. And why not? She is one of her country's top players and could help pave the way to Olympic gold in Tokyo.
