Rising Fornal strikes in Champions League

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 14, 2020 - Poland's new rising star, 22-year-old Tomasz Fornal, had his day this week as he led his club Jastrzebskji Wegiel to a monumental win over once mighty Zenit Kazan in the European Champions League and secured his side's advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Fornal was named MVP of the game on Wednesday, for his contribution of team-high 15 points, including a 54% (14/26) attacking efficiency as Jastrzebski handed 2017 world champions and six-time European champions Zenit their third Champions League defeat of the season and left his own side undefeated at the top of the pool standings.

The outside hitter, who follows in the footsteps of his two-time Polish champion father, has already been crowned U19 and U21 world champion, in addition to several age-group titles at continental level. Last year he was on the Polish squad that won the bronze medal in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

Fornal is already leading Jastrzebski to new heights in Europe. It's now left to see how he can contribute to Poland's aspirations in the upcoming 2020 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
