Poletaev again wraps up Russia's perfect weekend

Ufa, Russia, June 9, 2019 - Speared on again by Victor Poletaev, defending champions Russia wrapped up a perfect weekend at home with a 3-0 (29-27, 25-16, 25-18) sweep of Italy, advancing to 5-1 after six matches so far in the 2019 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League.

The win over the Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallists came on the back of straight-set wins over Portugal and USA at Ufa over the weekend.

The second weekend's results have already seen reigning Olympic champions Brazil remain the only unbeaten team after six matches, following their latest five-set win over neighbours and archrivals Argentina in Tokyo earlier today.

Poletaev put the pressure on Italy from the service line and fired off five of his team's nine aces, amassing in total 17 points as he led Russia to victory. The pressure from the service line also helped Russia prevail on the net, with Egor Kliuka and Ivan Iakovlev bringing in three blocks each of the team's total nine.
