Lucky seven! Conte the hero as Argentina beat France

Cannes, France, June 15, 2019 – Facundo Conte hit the winning shot as Argentina beat France 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20) at the Palais des Victoires on Saturday to record their first win of week three of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League.

Argentina’s improved vastly from their defeat to the USA on Friday and such was their movement and defence that 2018 VNL silver medallists France were unable to interrupt their rhythm and impose themselves on the match.

Conte’s winner summed up the match as they comfortably defended Antoine Brizard’s serve and set the number seven up for a simple spike to win the match that he took with glee.
The winner was Conte’s 13th point of the match, though his Argentine teammates Bruno Lima with 18 and Cristian Poglajen with 15 were ahead of him in scoring. Stephen Boyer led scoring for France with 13, while Trevor Clevenot and Barthélémy Chinenyeze weighed in with 10 apiece.

Despite the loss France remain fourth in the VNL standings and on course for a place in the VNL Final that take place in Chicago from July 10 to 14. Argentina are 10th.

On Sunday Argentina will take on Germany, while France conclude the pool against 2018 bronze medallists USA.
