Looking back: Women's VNL Finals line-up decided in thrilling fashion

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 1, 2019 – Week five of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League provided some thrilling action as the six finalists were decided. 

At the start of the week Italy and Turkey had already qualified, while China were guaranteed a place as they host the finals at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center from July 3-7. Brazil and 2018 champions USA needed only one win to book their place.


It meant that Japan and Poland began the week chasing the final spot. They started on 21 points and met in the first match in Boryeong, Korea. 


Jacek Nawrocki’s Poland won 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22) to move into sixth place and then secured their place by beating the Dominican Republic. 

Turkey and Brazil brought the pool stage to a close after 120 matches and they produced a thriller in the Baskent Volleyball Hall in Ankara that the hosts won 3-2.
