Karakurt bags 31 in failed Turkey comeback for bronze

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 7, 2019 - Ebrar Karakurt tried to lead Turkey's comeback against China in the bronze medal match of the 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League and scored 31 points Sunday in Nanjing, but her performance fell short of taking the match into a tie-break as the hosts prevailed 3-1 (25-23, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21) to earn a place on the podium.

The 19-year-old, who started as opposite but moved to the outside during the match, collected 28 points from attacks (28/50 for a 56% efficiency) and also finished three blocks - though her serving today was not up to par and yielded no aces.

It is the second time that the Tukrish teenagers makes the list of players to have scored 30 points or more in a single VNL game.

Earlier this season she had scored 30 points as she led Turkey to a five-set win over Poland in Jiangmen.

Karakurt's performance on Sunday brings her season total in the VNL to 291 points scored, enough to practically secure second place in the best scorers table behind Poland's Malwina Smarzek and her record-braking 421 points.
