2019 Women’s VNL – May 30 – Pool 7 – Head-to-Head Stats

 

Macau, China, May 30, 2019 – Korea are seeking to earn successive match wins for the second time against China in their matchup history, while Thailand hope to get successive wins for the first time in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

China – Korea (May 30, 2019)
Head-to-head

• At last year's Volleyball Nations League tournament Republic of Korea beat China 3-0 on 17 May 2018, ending a six-match losing streak against the Chinese at world level major competitions.
• Republic of Korea could now beat China in successive world level matches for the second time, after 1993-1994 when they recorded a three-match winning run at the 1993 World Grand Prix (2 victories) and the 1994 World Championship (1).
• World level major tournaments are: FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• These teams also met at the 2018 Asian Games last August. China beat Republic of Korea 3-0 in Pool B and went on to win the gold medal. Republic of Korea claimed the bronze medal.

China
• China have won their last three Volleyball Nations League matches, their longest winning run in this competition.
• China now have a W12-L12 record in the Volleyball Nations League.
• China last won four successive matches at a world level tournament at the 2018 World Championship (six in a row).
Xinyue Yuan scored five of China's 11 points from blocks against Belgium in their most recent VNL match. Changning Zhang (3), Ni Yan (2) and Xia Ding (1) scored the other six.
Yuan (11) was one of four players scoring at least 10 points against Belgium, alongside Yingying Li (15), Zhang (13) and Xiangyu Gong (12).

Korea
• Republic of Korea lost 3-1 to Thailand in their most recent Volleyball Nations League match.
• Republic of Korea have now lost four of their five VNL matches in 2019, with the only exception a 3-0 win over Belgium.
• Republic of Korea have lost 13 of their last 15 matches in major world level competitions (Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup).
• Apart from their VNL victory against Belgium, Republic of Korea beat Trinidad & Tobago in this run, 3-0 at the 2018 World Championship.
Heejin Kim (58), Sohwi Kang (54) and Seungju Pyo (51) have all scored at least 50 points this VNL campaign.

Belgium – Thailand (May 30, 2019)
Head-to-Head

• Belgium and Thailand have previously met in two world level major tournament matches.
• World level major tournaments are: Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• The first world level major tournament match between Belgium and Thailand took place at the 2015 World Grand Prix. Thailand won 3-1.
Belgium
• Belgium lost 3-0 to China in their most recent Volleyball Nations League match. It was their third defeat of this campaign, and their 14th in total in the VNL.
• Nine of Belgium's 14 defeats at the Volleyball Nations League came in straight sets, including each of their last four losses.
• Belgium have not won the opening set of a VNL match since a 3-1 win against Thailand on 14 June 2018.
Kaja Grobelna (14) was the only player to score more than nine points in the VNL match against China.
Marlies Janssens scored five of Belgium's six points from serve in the VNL match against China. Janssens has 11 aces in total this VNL campaign.

Thailand
• Thailand defeated Republic of Korea 3-1 in their most recent Volleyball Nations League match, already equalling their number of wins from last season's VNL (2).
• Thailand have yet to win successive matches at the VNL.
• Thailand could win consecutive matches at major world level for the first time since the 2017 World Grand Prix when they defeated Turkey and Italy in straight sets.
Malika Kanthong and Chatchu-On Moksri both scored a match-high 19 points in the VNL match against Republic of Korea.
Ajcharaporn Kongyot is Thailand's leading points scorer this VNL campaign on 52 points.
