It all began with the inaugural edition of the FIVB's new annual event for national teams, the Volleyball Nations League, with some of the sport's biggest names participating in trick shot videos to promote the new competition.

From monster blocks to super spikes and mega rallies, the VNL was packed with great moments from beginning to end.

And the state-of-the-art Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France was transformed to set the scene for the spectacular action at the Volleyball Nations League Men’s Finals.

The Volleyball Nations League Women’s Finals in Nanjing, China also featured a memorable result for the United States.

Later in the year, the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship saw 2014 world champions Poland rise again to defend their title – and they did it step by step.

They went on to defeat Brazil in the final in a rematch of the 2014 competition climax.

And it was team captain Michal Kubiak who lifted the trophy...

And there were certainly a lot of emotions during the finals, including excitement, determination, eagerness and appreciation!

In the women's competition in Japan, Serbia delivered a solid performance from start to finish to take their first ever FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship title.

Serbia’s left-handed opposite Tijana Boskovic reigned as the MVP of the tournament. She outlasted Italy’s hard-hitting Paola Egonu in the final showdown.

The FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships concluded the year with a bang as Italy’s Trentino Volley won their fifth Men’s World Championship title by beating A.S. Volley Lube Civitanova in four sets, while Turkey’s VakifBank Istanbul claimed back-to-back Women’s Club World Championship title victories by topping Minas Tenis Clube in straight sets.

Jennia Grebennikov’s Best Libero award at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship completed a treble for the Frenchman – a fitting tribute to his great skills.
