Cirovic winner gives Serbia victory over Brazil

Gondomar, Portugal, June 14, 2019 - Lazar Cirovic hit the winner as Serbia beat Brazil 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 15-12) in a match that swung back and forth in the FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League at the Multiusos do Gondomar Arena on Friday.

Renan Dal Zotto’s Brazil were trying to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches, but despite appearing in control for large parts of the match Nikola Grbic’s Serbia kept the Olympic champions within striking distance and maintained the belief throughout.

They only needed one match point to win. Brazil were unable to control Petar Krsmanovic’s serve and when the ball sat up in front of the net Cirovic needed no second invitation to spike the ball dead for the win.

The winner was Cirovic’s 12th point of the match as he led scoring for Serbia. Krsmanovic also finished with double figures, one behind on 11. Brazil’s Ricardo Lucarelli Souza led scoring with 20 and Yoandy Leal Hidalgo finished with 15 points.

Serbia now take on Portugal on Saturday, while Brazil will face China.
