Valdir Sequeira was born in Angola in 1981. His first club was SL Benfica, in 2001, followed by AA Coimbra where he played for 2 seasons. He then had his first experience playing in a foreign country: two seasons in Italy at Prisma Taranto, where he won the A2 Italian championship, and one season in Germany at the General Haching. In 2007 he returned to Portugal playing in Vitoria SC just to go once again back to Italy in the following year. There he played for Monini Marconi Spoleto (07/08), Stamplast Martina Franca (08/09), Copra Volley Piacenza (09/10), Eurogroup Gela (10/11) and LB Casa Rurale Cantu (11/12). He moved to Austria to play for SK Posojilnica Aich/Dob where he won the championship in 12/13. In 2014 he returned to Portugal to play for SC Espinho, moving in 2015 to Israel where he played for Maccabi Tel Aviv, and 16/17 to Slovakia representing VK Prievidza and helping the club reach the championship final and returned to Portugal in 2017/18 to play for AJF Bastardo. He’s currently playing in Videx Grottazzolina in the A2 italian league with a good performance. Valdir’s first match for the national team was back in 2002, and this 196-cm opposite has an enormous physical potential, explosive and with great impulsion capacity, gaining each time more consistence and tactic maturity. In the national team the best results achieved were the 5th place in the 2005 World League, the 10th place in the 2005 European Championships, the European League Champion title conquered in 2010 and the 2nd place in the 2016 World League Group 2 Finals. In 2017 and 2018 he was in all the competitions and success of the National Team, such as securing a spot in the 2019 EuroVolley finals and wining in 2018 the Challenger Cup that granted the team access to this year’s edition of the VNL.
