Phelipe Martins was born in Matosinhos in 1991 and started to play at the age of 13 years old. His first club was Leixoes SC where he played for 4 seasons. In 2008 he integrated the project of the Portuguese NF the National teams Permanent Training Centre, playing for CDRJ Anreade, where he won the III division national championship, returning in the following 2 years to his first club, and afterwards for Castelo da Maia GC. In 2013 he transferred to SC Espinho and in 2014/2015 to SC Caldas. He had is first international transfer in 2017 when he played for SV Schwaig in Germany. This season he returned to SC Espinho. The 201-cm middle-blocker played his first match for the national team in 2008 and he’s had an evolutionary path both in the club and in the youth and junior national teams. In 2015 he was in the roster of the national men’s team. In 2016 he was in the European Qualification to the Euro 2017, and also helped the team in the preparation for the World League. He’s also been improving both physically and in his capacity as blocker and spiker. In 2017 he played in the World League Group 2 and in 2018 he was in all the competitions and success of the National Team, such as securing a spot in the 2019 EuroVolley finals and wining in 2018 the Challenger Cup that granted the team access to this year’s edition of the VNL.
