Joao Fidalgo was born in Espinho in 1986, and started to play volleyball when he was 7 years old. His first club was SC Espinho where he played during his formation years. After as senior he played for several clubs in the first division, such as Esmoriz GC, GC Vilacondense and Vitoria SC. In 2012 he moved to Terceira Island, to play for AJ Fonte Bastardo, winning that year’s edition of the Portuguese cup, and in 2015 and 2016 the Portuguese championship. He also played in AAS Mamede. Currently he’s playing for Sporting CP with whom he won the national championship in 2017/18. The 172-cm libero is a fighter with very good skills in defense and reception. Also personally, he never let back his studies and has a master degree in physical education and sports. Very strong mentally, he is a good team player always pushing and helping his teammates. He played in the World League 2015 and the final phase of Group 2 in 2016, along with the presence in the European Qualification the Euro 2017. Also in 2017 he was again present in the World League Group 2. His fighting spirit was present in the results of the National Team in the campaign of 2018, Golden European League and Final Four, Challenger Cup and in qualification for the 2019 EuroVolley.
