Team profile

Poland have dominated the international scene since the mid-1970s. They have participated in the Olympic Games nine times, winning gold in Montreal in 1976 and finishing 5th at the Rio 2016 Games. They have come back in 2010s just as strong, winning back-to-back FIVB World Championship titles in 2014 at home in Katowice and in 2018 in Turin, both with wins over Brazil in the final.
Having played an important role in the development of the sport since their appearance at the inaugural World Championship in 1949, they won their first gold in this competition in 1974.
After competing in 20 editions of the FIVB World League (ending up with a bronze medal in 2011 at home in Gdansk followed by a gold in 2012 in Sofia), Poland was one of the core teams in the inaugural 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. They made it through to the Final Six in Lille, but failed to advance to medals round, ranking 5th overall.
At continental level, Poland have won five silver and one bronze, but have only once reached gold, after beating France 3-1 in the 2009 final.

Immediately he secured another epic success, leading Poland to the title at the 2018 FIVB World Championship. As a player he represented Belgium 150 times, before embarking on his coaching career which saw him lead Noliko Maaseik to several domestic titles in Belgium, followed by appointments in Turkey, Poland and France.
