USA look to bounce back in clash with Australia

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2018 - After their defeat on Friday to Germany, USA seek to bounce back when they take on Australia Saturday in Ottawa at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. And the Americans have never lost to the 'Volleyroos' in seven previous encounters.

Head-to-Head
• The United States have won all of their seven encounters with Australia in world level major competitions.
• World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• Only against Egypt (15) have USA played more matches in world level major competitions without ever losing than versus Australia (7).
• Australia have only faced Russia (11) and Brazil (9) more often at world level major tournaments without ever winning.
• Three of the United States' last four victories over Australia came in straight sets, with the exception of a 3-1 win at the 2016 World League.

United States
• The United States started their 2018 VNL with five consecutive victories but lost their final two matches, 3-2 against Brazil in week 2 and 3-0 against Germany on Friday.
• The last time USA lost three consecutive matches in world level major competition was at the 2017 World League, when they lost their first three matches.
• Friday's 3-0 defeat against Germany was USA's first 3-0 loss in world level major competition since their defeat against Canada in their opening fixture of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
• The previous time United States lost 3-0 in succession at world level major tournaments was at the 2015 World League.
• Despite their 3-0 loss against Germany, Jake Langlois scored a team-high 12 points.

Australia
• Australia have won one of their seven VNL fixtures, a 3-0 win over Bulgaria on 2 June.
• Australia have lost their last seven world level major matches against North & Central America and Caribbean sides, since the 3-1 win over Canada at the 2014 World League.
• Paul Carroll scored a team-high 15 points on Friday, including 14 points from spikes.
