USA eye fifth straight-set win in a row against Germany

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 26, 2018 - Table leaders USA are looking at continuing their 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League run of four straight-set wins when they take on Germany Tuesday in Bangkok. And the Americans haven't lost to Germany in seven years, since the 2011 FIVB World Cup, enjoying an 8-1 record overall in their series. Moreover, after stunning Brazil in their opening game, Germany are now on a five-match losing streak.

Head-to-Head
• Germany have won one of their last nine matches against United States at world level major tournaments, a 3-0 win in the 2011 World Cup.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• USA are on a five-match unbeaten run versus Germany since their defeat in 2011.
• USA have won three of their last four matches against Germany in straight sets, including the most recent encounter at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• German sides have won 10 matches in total against USA, five of which since 2004.

Germany
• After winning their opening match against Brazil, Germany have lost their next five matches at the VNL.
• This is Germany's longest run without a win at a world level major tournament since a streak of 10 matches at the World Grand Prix in 2016-2017.
• That run of 10 matches included three defeats versus USA.
• Louisa Lippmann leads Germany in scoring at the 2018 VNL on 112 points, including 103 spikes.

United States
• United States have taken over the lead in the VNL following three wins in Week 2.
• United States have not lost any set in their four fixtures, following the 3-2 defeat against Turkey in their second match in Week 1.
• USA could now win five successive matches at world level in straight sets for the first time since a run of six 3-0 wins in a row at the World Cup in 2015.
• As setter, Carli Lloyd has a 20.5 average per set, highest of all players at the VNL. She has made 431 running sets, most of all players.
• Michelle Bartsch-Hackley is USA's top scorer on 71 points.
