Undefeated USA take on winless Korea

Lausanne, Switzerlans, June 1, 2018 - USA go for their fourth straight win in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Saturday in Goiania, when they face Korea who are still after their first win of the season - indeed their first set. Nut Korea have not beaten the Americans since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Head-to-Head
• The United States have won each of the last six world level major encounters with Korea since a 3-2 defeat at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
• World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• Four of those six defeats were in straight sets, including each of the last two.
• They also met at the 1994 World Championship quarterfinals, when USA won in straight sets on their way to the third place; Korea finished eighth.

Korea
• Korea have lost all their four matches in straight sets, versus Poland, Canada, Russia and Brazil in this VNL.
• They can lose five matches in straight sets in a single world level major competition for the first time since the 2011 World League (5).
• The last time Korea won a set in a world level major competition came at the 2017 World League on 18 June 2017, when they beat Slovakia in five sets.
• If Korea win a set against USA, all teams have won at least one set in the VNL.

United States
• The United States won their last VNL match against Japan in five sets after trailing 2-0.
• They have now won two five-setters (also against Argentina) this Nations League, after losing the five previous five setters they played in world level major competitions.
• The United States have won all four VNL matches so far.
• The United States can win the opening five matches of a world level major competition for the first time since the 2015 World Cup, when they won the first eight matches en route to the trophy.
• Benjamin Patch scored 15 points for USA against Japan and has now scored a total of 65 points in the VNL. He surpassed Taylor Sander as the team's leading scorer in the VNL.
