Turkey seek back-to-back wins over Belgium

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 26, 2018 - Turkey lead Belgium 3-2 in their head-to-head series at world competitions, including a win in their latest encounter in last year's FIVB World Grand Prix, as the two sides clash again Tuesday in Kraljevo for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

Head-to-Head
• Belgium and Turkey have met five times at world level major tournaments, all at the World Grand Prix.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• Turkey won three of the five encounters, including the most recent match, a 3-1 win at the World Grand Prix in 2017.
• Belgium's last win came a year earlier, 3-1 in 2016.
• Turkey also beat Belgium the last time they faced each other at the European Championship, 3-0 in 2015.
Belgium
• Belgium's fortunes made a u-turn in Week 2 of the 2018 VNL with three defeats, following two wins and one loss in the first week.
• The Belgians could lose four matches in a row at world level for the first time since a run of 11 at the 2016 and 2017 World Grand Prix.
• That run of 11 losses started after their 3-1 win versus Turkey at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Belgium could suffer three consecutive defeats in straight sets for the first time since the World Grand Prix in July 2017.
• Celine Van Gestel and Turkey's Gamze Alikaya both have scored nine aces.
• Britt Herbots is Belgium's top scorer on 91 points.

• Turkey have won five of their six matches at the VNL, only losing 3-1 to Brazil.
• Turkey have not won more than five matches at a world level major tournament since their eight wins at the 2014 World Grand Prix.
