Thailand and Germany both look to bounce back

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 29, 2018 - After both lost their opening matches in Week 3 of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League to USA and the Dominican Republic respectively, Germany and Thailand meet in Bangkok Wednesday, after their first week of the week. Germany are on a six-match losing streak after stunning Brazil in their very match, but have not beaten Thailand in four years.

Head-to-Head
• Thailand have won the last two encounters against Germany at major world level tournaments.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• The most recent of Thailand's wins came at the 2016 World Grand Prix, 3-1 on 12 June 2016.
• Germany had won eight of the nine matches against Thailand before losing the last two.
• Germany's last win over Thailand was a 3-0 victory at the 2014 World Grand Prix.

Thailand
• On 29 May, Thailand lost 3-0 to Dominican Republic, their fifth defeat at the VNL.
• Thailand have not failed to win a set in successive major world level fixtures since their last four matches of the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Thailand could win three matches a single major level competition for the third time in their last four participations, after the 2015 and 2017 World Grand Prix. They recorded two wins at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Thailand have won their last four major world level matches in which they won the first set.

Germany
• After winning their opening match against Brazil, Germany have lost their next six matches at the VNL.
• This is Germany's longest run without a win at major world level since a streak of 10 matches at the World Grand Prix from 2016 to 2017.
• That run of 10 matches included a 3-1 defeat against Thailand at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Germany have won only two of their last 14 major world level encounters with Asian sides, both against Kazakhstan at last year's World Grand Prix.
