Lausanne, Switzerland, May 26, 2018 - Reigning world champions Poland are out to defend two perfect records when they host Canada Sunday in Krakow: Their so far perfect record in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League after straight-set wins over Korea and Russia; and their perfect head-to-head record against Canada which currently stands at 11-0.
Head-to-Head
• Poland and Canada have met 11 times in world level major competitions, with Poland winning all 11 matches.
• World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• Against no other country have Canada played more than one match without winning in a world level major encounter. While Poland did not win more than six world major encounters without losing against any other country (6 against Tunisia).
• Canada have won only four sets against Poland in their 11 encounters in world level majors, including in each of the last two matches. They lost 3-1 at both the 2015 World Cup and the 2017 World League.
• Poland won in straight sets against Canada at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games in the group stage en route to their sole Olympic title.
Poland
• After beating Korea 3-0 on Friday, Poland again claimed a straight sets victory as they defeated Russia 3-0 on Saturday.
• Twice have Poland started a world level major tournament with three successive straight sets victories: the 2014 World Championships (then 3 matches) and the 2006 World Championships (then 7).
• Poland went on to win the world title in 2014, while they lost the final in 2006. Both finals were against Brazil.
• Poland can win three successive matches at world level major competitions for the first time since the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, when they beat Egypt, Iran and Argentina in succession.
• Michal Kubiak (19 points) and Lukasz Kaczmarek (16) were Poland's top scorers in their match against Russia on Saturday.
Canada
• After losing 3-0 to Russia on Friday, Canada bounced back with a straight sets victory over Korea.
• Canada last won successive world level major tournament matches in straight sets from July-August 2016, when they beat Turkey and Portugal 3-0 at the World League and United States 3-0 at the Olympic Games.
• Stephen Timothy Maar (12 points) and Graham Vigrass (11) reached double figures in scoring for Canada in their victory over Korea on Saturday.
