Koreans, Dominicans seek first VNL win

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 15, 2018 - Korea clash with the Dominican Republic Wednesday in Ningbo, as both seek their first win in the Volleyball Nations League following their opening day defeats to Belgium and China respectively, both in straight sets, with the Asian side enjoying a lead in their 6-3 head-to-head record.

Head-to-Head
• The Dominican Republic and Korea meet for the 10th time in a world level major competition. Dominican Republic have won three matches, Republic of Korea six.
• The women's world level major competitions are: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• These teams most recently met in a major competition at the 2015 World Cup, when Korea beat the Dominican Republic 3-1.
• Of Korea's six wins over the Dominican Republic in major competitions, four came in straight sets. Of the Dominican Republic's three wins against Korea two came by a 3-2 scoreline.

Dominican Republic
• The Dominican Republic lost 3-0 to China in their first match at the Nations League.
• The Dominican Republic have now lost their last three major world level fixtures, all in straight sets. Their last win at world level came at last year's World Grand Prix, 3-2 versus Thailand.
• Three of the Dominican Republic's last four victories in major world level competitions came against teams representing the AVC.
• The Dominican Republic lost their opening match in their last three participations in a major world level tournament, but won their second match on all three occasions.

Korea
• Korea failed to win their opening match at the 2018 Nations League, losing 3-0 to Belgium.
• Korea have now lost their last seven major world level matches - all in straight sets - since a 3-2 semifinal victory in the final four of group 2 versus Germany at last year's World Grand Prix.
• In their last six participations in a major world level competition, Korea have only once lost their opening two matches: at the 2017 Grand Champions Cup.
• Korea have won only one of their last 10 matches against NORCECA sides (major world level tournaments): a 3-1 win against the Dominican Republic at the 2015 World Cup.
