Germany look for return to victories against winless Argentina

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 7, 2018 - Germany need to pick up the pieces after Wednesday's heavy defeat to Poland when they meet winless Argentina Thursday in Bydgoszcz in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. Argentina have only beaten German side once in six previous attempts and are still looking for their first win of the season after eleven consecutive defeats.

Head-to-Head
• Argentina have won only one of their six world level major tournament matches against (East/West) Germany, a 3-2 victory in Montichiari in the 2013 World Grand Prix.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• The most recent world level major tournament match between Argentina and Germany came in the 2014 World Championships. The Germans won in straight sets in Rome, conceding only 12, 13 and 14 points in the three sets.
• Of (East/West) Germany's five world level major tournament wins against Argentina, four were in straight sets. The other was West Germany's 3-2 victory in Volta Redonda in the 1960 World Championships.

Argentina
• Argentina have lost all 11 VNL matches, including each of the last nine in straight sets. All other teams have won at least two fixtures in this year's tournament.
• Argentina could equal the record for most defeats by any team at a single world level major tournament - 12 by Germany in the World Grands Prix of 1995 and 2001.
• Argentina have equalled the team record for most straight-set defeats in a single world level major tournament - also nine at the 2003 World Cup. The last team to lose more matches in straight sets in a single world level major tournament were Algeria (11 at the 2015 World Cup).
• Argentina have won at least one match in each of their last eight world level major tournaments, since they lost all nine fixtures in the 2012 World Grand Prix.
• Argentina have won only two VNL sets, in 3-1 defeats against Russia and Netherlands in their opening two fixtures in the tournament.

Germany
• Germany's 3-1 defeat against Poland on Wednesday ended a run of three consecutive victories. Their overall VNL record is W4-L7.
• Only one of Germany's 11 VNL matches has gone to a deciding set, a victory against Thailand.
• Germany have won three consecutive world level major tournament matches versus European opposition, with those victories coming against three different opponents - Colombia, Peru and Brazil.
• Only Maren Fromm (15) and Marie Schoelzel (10) reached double figures in points in Germany's 3-1 defeat against Poland on Wednesday.
