Dutch seek to extend world level head-to-head against Germany

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 13, 2018 - The Netherlands advanced to the Final Six of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League with their win on Wednesday over China and now close their pool play obligations Thursday against Germany in Stuttgart. The Dutch lead the head-to-head against Germany at world level 11-5, but have lost their last five encounters at the European championship.

Head-to-Head
• German teams have won five and lost 11 major world level fixtures against The Netherlands.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• Since the reunification of Germany, The Netherlands have won eight of their nine major world level fixtures against Germany. The only exception in this run was a 3-1 defeat at the 2010 world championship.
• In their most recent major world level meeting, at the 2016 World Grand Prix, The Netherlands won in straight sets.
• At the European Championship, Germany remained unbeaten in their last five matches against The Netherlands, winning four of those matches in five sets.

Germany
• Germany have won five and lost nine matches at the 2018 VNL.
• Germany stunned Brazil in their VNL opener, lost their following six matches and could now lose three matches in a row for the first time since that six-match losing streak.
• Germany won the first set in five of their last seven VNL matches. They won four of those five matches.
• Louisa Lippmann, Germany's most prolific scorer in the Nations League on 224 points, is registered as a libero and remained on the bench against China on Tuesday and against Turkey on Wednesday. Kimberly Drewniok took the top scorer honours in her place on both occasions.

Netherlands
• The Netherlands' 3-1 victory over China on Wednesday secured them a berth in the VNL finals.
• The Dutch have now won 11 of their 14 Nations League matches this season, equalling their record number of victories at a single world level major tournament, previously set during the 2007 World Grand Prix when they also won 11 matches.
• The Netherlands' last three VNL victories came either by a 3-2 or 3-1 scoreline, after their last four wins before this run all were in straight sets.
• Lonneke Sloetjes is The Netherlands' top scorer in the VNL on 188 points. She again led her team in scoring against China on Wednesday with 28 points.
