Brazil look to extend winning streak against Korea

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 26, 2018 - Brazil take on Korea Tuesday in Apeldoorn in Week 3 of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, looking at extending their current winning streak to six and giving a boost to their 16-1 head-to-head record. Brazil have not lost to Korea since the London 2012 Olympic Games, when they went on to strike gold.

Head-to-Head
• Brazil have won 16 and lost one of their last 17 matches against Korea at world level major tournaments.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World Grand Prix and Grand Champions Cup.
• Brazil have won 13 of their last 16 wins against Korea in straight sets, including the last three.
• Brazil's last defeat against Korea's was a 3-0 loss at the London 2012 Olympic Games. This defeat did not stop Brazil in claiming the gold medal at the 2012 Games.
• Korea won the first six matches versus Brazil at world level major tournaments, but they only have added five more wins in their next 41 clashes.

Korea
• Korea's 3-0 defeat against Italy in the previous match ended their four-match winning streak at the Nations League.
• At world level major tournaments, Korea had lost seven matches prior to their run of four wins.
• Korea's last eight defeats at world level have all been in straight sets, including a 3-0 loss versus Brazil at the 2017 Grand Champions Cup.
• The Koreans can win at least five matches at a major world level tournament for the second time in three years, after nine wins at the World Grand Prix in 2017.
• Kim Yeon Koung has scored 129 points, second-most of all players behind Poland's Malwina Smarzek (155).
• Kim Su Ji has scored 18 points from stuff blocks.

Brazil
• Brazil have won five VNL matches in a row following their defeat against Germany in the opening round.
• They can now win six matches in a row at world level for the first time since a run of 12 wins at the World Grand Prix and Olympic Games in 2016.
• Brazil can win three matches in a row at world level in straight sets for the first time since a run of five straight-set victories at the Rio Games.
• Suelen Pinto is joint-leader in defence on 58 digs, equal to Maret Balkestein-Grothues (NED).
• Adenizia 'Ade' Da Silva (18) and Ana Beatriz 'Bia' Correa (17) have combined contributed 35 points from stuff blocks.
